Janus Open II – See you in Kolshøll, January 9 to 11

We at Talvfelagið Rókur are delighted to welcome all chess players, both beginners and advanced to The Janus Open II, which will take place in Kolshøll, Eiði, from January 9 to 11, 2026.

This tournament is held in memory of Janus í Løðuni, who was a passionate and active member of our club for many years. Janus was not only a skilled chess player but also a kind and generous man. He passed away far too soon at the age 46.

Through this tournament, we wish to honor his memory with values he cherished: respect, joy and friendship.

The first Janus Open (held in January 2025) was a huge success. It was a true celebration of all things chess. It was warmly received, attracting players from not only the Faroe Islands but from abroad. The event was marked by strong fellowship and good sportsmanship, exactly the kind of atmosphere Janus would have loved.

Janus Open II will be played over 8 rounds, across three days. All are welcome to participate, regardless of experience or playing strength. Although all players compete in the same group, prizes will be awarded separately in various different categories such as rating and age groups.

To ensure the best possible playing conditions, we may close registration once 100 players have signed up. We therefore encourage you to register early.

Meals will be provided on site; all participants will receive a free meal between rounds which we hope will provide an opportunity to socialise and make new connections.

This event is more than just a chess tournament; it is a time to share moments, remember a dear friend and strengthen our chess community.

We look forward to welcoming you once again to Kolshøll in January 2026 – for a warm and meaningful weekend with the love of chess at its centre.

With chess regards,
Talvfelagið Rókur
