Growing Interest in Women’s Chess

In the first year of Janus Open, 9 women participated. In the second year, the number increased to 15 – a positive development that we are very pleased to see.

We have made a focused effort to create good conditions for girls and women in chess. Among other initiatives, a special women’s blitz tournament was organised on Saturday, attracting as many as 24 participants.

This demonstrates that interest is growing and that there is a real need for initiatives that support and develop women’s chess in the Faroe Islands. Janus Open will continue to work purposefully to strengthen female participation and create more opportunities for girls in chess.
